At the southern tip of Te Arai Links, the land opens up in a way that makes you catch your breath. Three ranging fairways stretch toward the shoreline, and beyond them, the Pacific sits wide and unhurried on the horizon. It is one of the country’s most compelling and coveted sites, and as such sets high standards for anything built upon it. Ponting Fitzgerald responded with a home that doesn't compete with its setting, but belongs to it.
The vision was always about an immersive connection to place. Composed vistas were sought from every space, so that moving through the home feels like moving through a sequence of carefully framed views. Rooms become scenic lookouts, each one relating to the coastal context in its own way. The landscape is always present, and always central.
Atelier Marl was chosen to floor the entire home, and it earns its place throughout. The minky grey-brown tones carry a beautiful depth that shifts subtly with the light, echoing the driftwood hues and bleached textures of the coastal environment just beyond the glass. The aged stain and brushed surface bring warmth without weight, and the feature grade honours every knot and grain variation, lending the floors a sense of history.
