One material language, carried through a rural Auckland home.

Set on rural land on the edge of Auckland, the Sellars Residence is a new home built around one idea: timber, carried from the outside walls through to the floors. Sterne Collective paired two Millboard Envello cladding profiles with a matching Antique Oak deck. Inside, Spatial Studio turned to a darker, warmer oak, and Sentinel Homes brought the two together on site. The result is one composed palette, whichever side of the glass you’re standing on.

The floors were made for this home alone. Extra-wide oak planks in a soft, smoky mid-brown carry hand-scraped bevels, which give each board a gently worn edge, and the matte finish leaves the natural grain and knots on show. On the stairs, the same boards turn down over rounded, flush nosings, so each tread and riser reads as one piece of timber.
Envello Board & Batten+ in Antique Oak brings a warm, traditional rural rhythm to the main face of the home. The raised battens cast shadow lines across the façade, and the tones recall aged tropical hardwoods such as ipe and teak. Elsewhere, Shadow Line+ in Burnt Cedar gives the near-black look of stained cedar without the fading or re-staining real cedar needs. Both profiles are moulded from real oak, contain no wood and won’t rot or warp.
Millboard Enhanced Grain in Antique Oak carries the warm tones of the cladding out onto the deck. Its slip-resistant, splinter-free Lastane surface and near-hidden lost-head fixings keep it practical underfoot and clean to the eye.
Overhead, Alor panelling in Nox brings a rich, dark-brown European Oak across the ceiling, drawing the room in and giving it warmth. It’s prime grade with a natural matte finish, and low VOC with no added formaldehyde. Making it a mindful choice for family homes.
p close, Nox shows the character of prime-grade European Oak, its deep brown tones held under a natural matte finish that keeps the grain looking raw rather than lacquered.
In the kitchen, Spatial Studio carried Nox into the cabinetry, so the joinery and the ceiling read as one material. Alor veneer panels come prefinished in matte, ready for the cabinetmaker to cut and edge to size.
